Rob Callahan is a professor of chemistry at City Creek University in Dalton, Colorado, where he leads a research group in green chemistry and sustainable catalysis and teaches organic chemistry to undergraduate and graduate students.

His laboratory develops catalysts that make chemical manufacturing cleaner — replacing rare and toxic precious metals with abundant, earth-friendly alternatives like iron, copper, and manganese. Methods developed in his group have been adopted in pharmaceutical and materials synthesis, and his research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the ACS Petroleum Research Fund, and the U.S. Department of Energy.

A dedicated teacher and science communicator, he has mentored more than forty graduate and undergraduate researchers and directs City Creek's Chemistry in the Community program, which brings hands-on laboratory science to high schools across the Colorado Front Range. He is the author of a widely adopted organic chemistry textbook and a frequent public voice on the promise of sustainable science.
